College Talk: U15+ Boys @ Kennedy Center at Augsburg University, Room 303
Jan 17 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Photo: Head Coach Greg Holker and Asst Coach Tom HomaEach year Saint Paul Blackhawks hosts an interactive session for college-bound boys (and another for girls) to set expectations and introduce the process of college soccer recruiting. Greg Holker, Augsburg University men’s head coach, and assistant coach Tom Homa, will provide essential and timely guidance for players who look forward to continuing their soccer in college.

High school boys and their parents or guardians will find this information especially helpful, but anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The process is similar for boys and girls. Since the timelines and landscape differ significantly, we will host a separate session targeted to girls.

Topics will include: setting appropriate expectations; academic and athletic preparation; researching available programs (NCAA, NAIA, et al); the recruitment process, timeline, and rules; communicating with prospective colleges and coaches. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

Please check the Augsburg University campus map and allow ample time for parking and wayfinding. The talk will be in Kennedy 303 (see “KC” on the map). Park in Lot L or on street and enter through front doors of the Kennedy Center. Classroom is on 3rd floor on the opposite side of the hallway from the elevator.

Third Thursday Parents’ Social @ The Black Hart of Saint Paul
Jan 17 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

This month we’ll convene at The Black Hart of Saint Paul. Join Blackhawks parents, coaches, alumni and anyone else who is interested for a pint and some Blackhawks banter!

Our goal is to bring adults in our Blackhawks community together for some social time away from the pitch.

You can help: get word out to others in your Blackhawks community. We hope to see you there!

Join Blackhawk Parents and Coaches for the first social event of 2019!

New this year… Whereas all our Third Thursday locations in 2018 were at brewery taprooms, we will be trying some new venues to include folks whose tastes extend beyond beer.

Not new this year, we will still have door prizes and have a great evening celebrating the Blackhawks community!
An added bonus this week: Black Hart owner and FiftyFive. One—The News From Soccer’s North—managing editor Wes Burdine will be taping his weekly 55.1 podcast (maybe with BHK Board Director member Rodrigo Sanchez-Chavarria?) about MNUFC and other soccer related topics. Audience participation encouraged!
