Which Blackhawks teams participate in N1 or ECNL RL?

US Club Soccer Youth Pathway is the biggest and strongest youth competition structure in American soccer.  Clubs earn their way to the top of the pyramid, The ECNL, through competitive performance year over year.

The top two tiers in this pathway, the ECNL and the ECNL Regional League, are club-based competitions.  Clubs in these tiers have demonstrated a history of competitive success across multiple age groups.  The third tier in this pathway, National 1 league, is a team-based competition for high performing individual teams.

Today, of the thousands of youth soccer clubs in America, approximately 130 clubs compete in the ECNL Girls and 150 clubs compete in the ECNL Boys, and approximately 300 clubs participate in the ECNL RL Girls and 400 clubs participate in the ECNL RL Boys.  For information on National 1 league, please CLICK HERE.

National 1 League (N1) is the top team-based competition in US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer, elevating teams across the country into a unified national platform integrated with the ECNL. For U13 teams to be considered for ECNL RL or N1 at 13U, a club must have fielded a U12 team at National or Regional the prior summer season.

For U14-U19 teams to be considered for ECNL RL, a team must have played NPL in the previous season.

In addition to the above, Blackhawks looks at each team’s league record, roster makeup and coach feedback when choosing a playing level. Our goal is to place teams in leagues that are developmentally appropriate for the players. We would like our teams to be challenged but also experience success throughout the season.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Blackhawks gives financial aid in the form of percentage discounts off of our programs. Parents must complete a short form in order to qualify and provide tax documentation.

When registering for any program, including tryouts, complete the financial aid form at that time so that a decision can be made before accepting a spot on a team.  Once a decision has been rendered, the discount will be automatically applied to the program.  If the form is not completed ahead of time, it delays registration and/or accpetance on a team.  More information can be found here.

Financial aid only covers program fees. It does not apply towards the tryout fee, uniforms, team fees or travel.

Roster Size

  • U13-U15 teams roster 16-18 players.
  • U16-U19 teams roster 16-22 players
  • Per the league, game day rosters are capped at 18. If more than 18 players are available for any given game, it is up to the coach to decide which 18 will be rostered.
  • Coaches will take attendance, position and other factors into consideration.
  • The league has a cap of 26 total players on any given roster.

Playing Time

Blackhawks policy for players competing at this level is to give adequate playing time in every game.

Playing time can be impacted for the following reasons:

  • Low training attendance
  • Tardiness to practice and games
  • Failure to notify coaches in advance about absences from practices or games
  • Being disrespectful to teammates and coaching staff

Coaches have full discretion to field the most competitive team in league play and tournaments, which may result in players seeing reduced playing time.

    Uniforms

Uniforms are not included in the season prices.  Each kit is worn for two years. The kit launching in August 2026 will be worn for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 season.  Please consider that when choosing the size of your child’s kit.
